This is the only chance to see or participate in an Irish Canoe Union marathon race in Northern Ireland this year. There are 9 divisions and 3 race distances catering for all levels of ability from Novice to International.
Competitors compete over race distances from 6km up to 20km, including portaging (carrying canoe) around Portna Lock. Spectators are welcome to view at Portna Lock, Hutchinsons Quay and Kilrea Bridge.
Belfast Canoe Club will also run taster sessions at Shaws Bridge, Belfast for both beginners and novice racing paddlers throughout April/May and in National Go Canoeing week 25 May- 2 June. Keep an eye out on getwetni.com for more details.
Racing starts at 1230 and will finish by 1430. The organisers will provide safety cover, but competitors are responsible for their own equipment
Competitors must bring kayak or canoe, paddle and buoyancy aid, and must have a complete change of clothes and towel. Refreshments for competitors are provided after the race
Competitors must be registered as an individual or club member of either ICU or CANI, have basic canoeing skills, and be capable of paddling at least 6km
