Maximum 8 paddlers per session. Paddlers who wish to continue will be offered 3 further lessons at similar cost which should be enough to reach the minimum standard for membership of BCC.
Lough Henney is a uniquely suitable venue for learning to paddle a kayak, and we have a wide variety of kayaks available.
An experienced coach will explain the principles of paddling, the different types of kayak, and provide an hour’s coaching on the water. Those interested in getting involved will have the opportunity undertake 3 further lessons to join the club.
The session is 2 hrs in total with 1 hr on the water. We provide kayaks, paddles, and buoyancy aids.
Paddlers should wear light clothing and footwear. Avoid Fleece and other thick absorbent clothing, and trainers with thick soles. Paddlers must have a dry change of clothes available including footwear and towel in case of capsize. If you already have a buoyancy aid of your own suitable for kayaking you can use it.
Participants must be able to swim. Paddlers under 12 must be accompanied by a participating parent or sibling over 12.
