About The Event

Enjoy an introductory rowing session on the River Foyle and also being part of a crew learning new skills.

You will use a rowing machine indoors to learn the posture and grip to be used and the sequence of muscles used during a rowing stroke. You will follow through on this in our static indoor rowing tank where you will also learn the correct way to get into a boat. You will be shown the correct way to help lift a boat and step into it.You will be introduced to rowing on the water in a boat balanced by competent oarsmen, where you will learn to move the boat using the same sequence of muscles as well as posture and grip.

How to Book

Please email name, age, mobile number for each participant and preferred session to maureenbrow51@gmail.com by May 7th and await a reply confirming your acceptance. You will receive a consent form to complete and bring with you on the day. Under 18’s will require parental consent.

What's Included

During the 90 minute experience you will spend 10 minutes on the rowing machine, 15 mins in the rowing tank and 30 minutes in the boat rowing.

What to Bring

No equipment required. Wear old clothes e.g neat fitting fleece, t-shirt and leggings, with outer layers to suit the weather conditions and old trainers. Bring a kit bag with a bottle of water/diluted cordial, sandwich, towel and change of clothing.

  • Suitable for male and females over 14 years old and any adults over 45 years
  • Minimum age is 14 years old, maximum weight 110kgs
  • You need to be confident around water and be able to swim 50 metres in light clothing as we do not wear buoyancy aids as these restrict rowing action

 

Directions to Location

Meet at the Prehen Watersports Centre. 

From the Craigavon bridge, Derry take the A5, Victoria Road signed to Strabane. Prehen Watersports Centre is 0.8 miles along this road on your right hand side beside Foyle Search and Rescue base and before you come to the Everglades Hotel.
