Key Points

  • Ideal opportunity for beginners to have a go at sailing or kayaking
  • Open to male and females – all ages – except the very young
  • Beginners will be taken in a dinghy by an Instructor or club coach in dinghies
  • Anyone over 8 can have a go on a “sit on” kayak
  • Under 8’s must be accompanied in dinghies by parents
  • Suitable for competent swimmers (25metres)
  • Wearing of buoyancy aids is mandatory

About The Event

County Antrim Yacht Club are holding an afternoon of taster sessions from 1.30pm - 5pm in order to attract new members. This try sailing or kayaking taster provides short sessions under tuition or guidance in each craft. In general, beginners are crew in a dinghy and an experienced helm sails the boat. The club facilitates 4 dinghies for the public to experience on the water in the bay not far off shore, sit on kayaks are also provided to try out too. The time of each session will be flexible and their duration will be determined by the amount of people booked on.

After the session visitors will be shown around the club and advised on all club activities throughout the year. You will also have the opportunity to sign up to further places on sailing or kayaking courses. First year membership will be offered at 50% off. The day will end with a BBQ.

What to Bring

  • Trainers and outer layers
  • If you own one please bring your wetsuit and buoyancy aid - if you don't the club will provide you with one
  • A change of clothes and towel if you get wet

The club offers showers and changing rooms.

Suitability

8yrs old to 80yrs old!

If you have a younger child wanting to participate they can if we have a suitable buoyancy aid to fit them and they are accompanied by a parent.

Medical conditions need to be declared on a form at registration

Directions to Location

From A2 Belfast Road (from Belfast direction), turn right after Solo Service Station on to Cable Road, taking the 3rd turn left on to Kings Road, ( Old Tea House on Corner) OR From A2 Belfast Road (from Larne direction), turn left before the Solo Service Station on to Cable Road, taking the 3rd turn left on to Kings Road, ( Old Tea House on Corner)

Follow road to next junction to stop sign, turn right onto Chester Avenue.
Turn left onto Marine Parade - Fire Station on corner.
Turn Right onto Promenade – the Clubhouse is at the end.
